Great Backgrounds

Image
Here are some more cards made at our Oktoberfest class on using background stamps. For the card below, Hello, Doily was embossed with White Embossing Powder. I then sponged with Wonder Wisteria Classic ink over and around the image to make it stand out. Other stamp sets used to make this card are: Delicate Doilies, Borderlines and Tiny Tags. The colors used are Cherry Cobbler, Pretty in Pink and Wonder Wisteria. The Tool Shed background stamp was used for this card. We simply stamped it with Early Espresso ink and then sponged over it with More Mustard. We also used our White Gel Pen to bring out the highlights on this stamp. The wrench was embossed with Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder and cut out. The greeting is from the Perfectly Penned stamp set. With Early Espresso Classic Stampin' Pad, we used the En Français background stamp on Whisper White card stock. We then sponged sections of the card stock with Lucky Limeade, Peach Parfait and Poppy Parade classic inks. Over all th

Holiday Wreath

Image
This picture is a scan from the Holiday Mini Catalog. I have had several customers so impressed by this wreath that they have requested a wreath-making class, so we are gathering Saturday morning, October 29th, to try our hand at making it. I've been experimenting with retired papers to learn how to do it. We should have a great time putting this together at the home of one of my customers, who has more room than I have. This particular wreath may be for the fall, but I can just picture it made up with Christmas designer series paper and embellishments, can't you?

Background Stamps Make Great Cards!

Image
Our first class of the Oktoberfest weekend was on using those background stamps that are sitting on our shelves. We made some fantastic cards with them. I'm showing three on this post and I'll share the other three on another post. Two different background stamps decorate this 5¼-inch square card: Sunflower (123606) and Distressed Dots (122815). We used Chocolate Chip and Peach Parfait classic stampin' pads. The card stock is Whisper White, Blushing Bride, Peach Parfait and Chocolate Chip. Perfectly Penned stamp set provides the greeting on the banner. Ribbon, a glimmer brad and our Scallop Trim Border punch bring the card to life. For this card, we used Whisper White Craft Stampin' Pad to stamp the Parlor Prints background stamp on Crumb Cake card stock. The Creative Elements stamp set provided the images for the rest of the stamping on this card, along with the Early Espresso Classic Stampin' Pad. I love effect of the Pool Party Rufled Ribbon and the little butte

Bonus Projects

Image
At Oktoberfest, we were given these two bonus projects to work on if we completed our other items and had extra time. This card uses a stamp set that will be available in the Occasions Mini Catalog in January. I can't wait to get it. Everyone who knows me at all knows that I am obsessed with my teas (black teas of all kinds; no herbal infusions). I know that once we demonstrators are able to pre-order items from that catalog, this set will be first on my list! This pinwheel was surprisingly easy! I laid a punched circle of card stock on the square of Big Top Birthday designer series paper (122348, $10.95) and cut from each of the corners to that circle. I then poked a hole in one side of each corresponding corner as well as the center of the Real Red card stock circle, the square of dsp, and the closed Cellophane Bag. I then inserted the glimmer brad (121006, $4.90) through the circle, folded each corner in to the center and fastened all layers to the Cellophane Bag with the brad.

Beau Chateau in 3-D

Image
I'm still sharing items made at our recent Oktoberfest. These two projects are made with the Beau Chateau Designer Series Paper (122357, $10.95) and the Petite Pocket die (123131, $42.95). It took four Petite Pocket cut-outs to make this box. The Perfect Pennants Bigz L Die includes the scalloped circle with cutouts used as part of the front design on this box. This book with its fan-folded spine has room to slip in three pages or, in this case, petite pockets. The "Side Notes" (122379, $5.95) provided the extras. We also used the Creative Elements stamp set (W 122645, $32.95; C 122647, $24.95) to decorate the cover, inside and petite pockets. I'm not exactly sure what I would put into the petite pockets. There are also page-width pockets inside the front and back covers of this book. Another time, I might insert pages with pockets to store handmade cards and then give it to a friend. You can see the fan-folded spine in the picture below.

Christmas 3-D Items

Image
I'm showing off more items made at this year's Oktoberfest. I just love this cute stocking box. We actually sandwiched a box cut with the Box #2 Die between two stockings. We layered card stock and Holly Berry Bouquet Specialty Designer Series Paper to make the pieces sturdier. Of course, we had another die for the stocking with its cuff, heel and toe trimmings—Holiday Stocking Bigz L Die. The Stocking Accents Die gave us the ornament used in place of the letter "O". The red glimmer paper and the glimmer dots on the dsp really dress up this package. I'm picturing it with candy canes sticking up above the cuff. Isn't this bird house gift box adorable? I lost one of my glimmery red berries and will need to cut another one, but it's still cute. The ribbon on the side of the roof enables the gift recipient to lift the top to access the contents and then to close it up again when finished. The holly leaves and berries are also cut with the Stocking Accents die

Just Birthday Cards

Image
At this year's Oktoberfest, our final class of the weekend was birthday cards, many using items from the Big Top Product Suite. The first card incorporated the Sweet Centers stamp set and Circle Treat Cups as well as the Big Top Birthday Designer Series Paper. You will find that dsp in all the cards included in this post. The lollipop is made with one of the images in the Sweets for the Sweet stamp set and adhered to a sucker stick. The little bag tied over the top added to the realistic look of this 3-D card. I think this card is going to my granddaughter for her second birthday coming up the 24th of this month. Even the Tempting Turquoise background has dimension because we used the Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Along with the Big Top Birthday dsp, we used the Up, Up & Away stamp set. Note how perfectly the stamp set coordinates with the designer paper. And, of course, our Stampin' Up! colors all coordinate, whether inks and markers, card stock or designe

Grand Achievers' Project

Image
When demonstrator's on Aly Schilling's team qualify for Grand Achievers' Day, we treated to a day or evening where we make great projects. This year, we made a 6-inch scrapbook without the album. You'll see by the last picture that we assembled the pages, all inserted in page protectors) with rings and ribbons. The photos below begin with the cover followed by tw0-page spreads. The final picture shows the assembled "album". I chose the letter "f" for "family". Sorry about the reflections from the chandelier above the table where I took these pictures. Can't believe we never used the Big Shot! It was great fun.

Winter Scrappin'

Image
This is the winter scrapbook page we made at my September workshop. Not that we were looking forward to winter, but knowing it would come. The snowmen dancing across the top of the page are from the Button Buddies set (I love that set! it comes with 8 images that just pop when buttons are added). Notice one of them has a button belly with mini brads through the button holes. Naturally, the snowflake is cut with the Big Shot. Can I ever avoid using the Big Shot? And to think I bought it reluctantly! Products Used: Button Buddies Stamp Set, W 122735, $29.95; C 122737, $21.95 Pacific Point 12" x 12" Textured Card Stock, 121077, 20 assorted sheets, $11.95 Bashful Blue Card Stock, 105120, $6.95, 24 sheets, 8½" x 11" Whisper White 12" x 12" Smooth Card Stock, 124302, $5.95, 12 sheets Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack, Subtles Collection, 117152, $21.95, 40 (12" x 12") sheets Mini Brads (200), 122941, $5.50

From Card to Scrapbook

Image
At a recent workshop, we made one Christmas card and one scrapbook page, although not the page shown on this post. I wanted to show this particular group how cards and scrapbooks are related, how the design of one lends itself to the design of another. When demonstrating this scrapbook page, I actually used Dotto for the various elements so I could take them apart and place them differently for each aspect of the scrapbook page. I should have photographed them in steps before placing everything permanently on the 12"x12" page. Anyway, I started with the Wild Wasabi 6"x6" square page made similar to the card front. If you look closely, you can see where that page is. I then added that to the Real Red 8½"x11" page, although I had the photo with Uncle Andrew centered on the card stock. I then moved it over and added the rest of the elements to the 12"x12" Wild Wasabi. The small picture of my daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter and granddog was part
