Graduation Cap?

How often have you found yourself in need of a card for which you don't have any appropriate stamps? That's the perfect time to think outside the box, which is what Aly Schilling did when she designed and taught this card to our demonstrator team. Using the Big Shot and the Scallop Square Bigz Clear Die, we cut through two layers of Real Red card stock. We then frayed a piece of Basic Black 5/8" Satin Ribbon by cutting off the two selvage edges to within 1/2" from the end. We attached that with a 5/8" Jumbo Brad. Be sure to do that before constructing the rest of the card. The inside is a piece of 12x4" Whisper White card stock scored at 4", 6" and 8". The Word Window punch was used to make an opening for a gift card, check or money by punching twice. The fold is adhered down the sides only (leave room for that gift card); the two remaining 4x4" squares are fastened to the back sides of the Real Red Scallop Squares. The one stamp used fo

Delicious "In Colors"

Stampin' Up! has a new policy with "In Colors". These are those temporary colors that are popular today, probably found in clothing and home decor ideas. Previously, SU offered six "in colors" for one year; now the five colors will carry over for two years with another five being offered the second year. The Designer Series Paper Stack is another new addition this year. When you order this stack, you will receive 40 12x12" sheets of designer paper, 4 each of 2 double-sided designs in the 5 in colors. They are also available in our four new color families, 2 each of 2 double-sided designs in the 10 colors of the family. I'm looking forward to those packs, which can't be ordered until July 1st. Meanwhile, I had fun playing with the new In Colors. I punched a scallop square from each color and mounted them on Sahara Sand on a Whisper White card. The ice cream cone with its pile of ice cream scoops in all our delicious In Colors is stamped with the S

Converting Colors

I'm still saying a fond farewell to many of the retiring colors. Why did I ever think I would be able to use up all that card stock? I had just inventoried and restocked my supplies when I received the announcement, so I guess I'm going to start selling off the what I have in paper, inks and markers. The card below was made in an effort to use up old rub-ons as well as card stock. I used to use Brilliant Blue often enough to warrant two ink pads and now I'm saying good-bye to it. The card below uses Green Galore, Brilliant Blue and Whisper White. There is no stamping on this card; the flowers are a rub-on. I kept looking at the colors in this card and admiring them. The next step was to look through my supplies of card stock that appear in the new 2010-2011 Idea Book and Catalog to find a combination that will provide nearly the same effect. I settled on Certainly Celery and Pacific Point. I had also been playing with a design idea in my head which used the new Baby Tees ju

Bold Medallion

Image
This card is the result of wanting to put together a quick card while cleaning up my supplies from my recent rub-ons class which featured the Dots & Designs rub-ons and Ruby Red, Whisper White and Chocolate Chip. So simple to put together--but there are only nine more days to order Ruby Red! I used only two stamp sets on this card: Medallion, 115223, $17.95 and Oval All, 113790, $16.95. I stamped the Medallion twice, once in Chocolate Chip and once on scrap Whisper White card stock in Ruby Red. I then cut out the Ruby Red center and adhered it to the center of the Chocolate Chip Medallion on my card. I added a 5/16" Chocolate Chip brad from the neutrals assortment of the smaller "Jumbo Brads" (112534, $7.95). For two colors on the oval "fabulous friend", I used my markers to color directly on the stamp and, after stamping on a piece of Whisper White, I punched it out with the Large Oval punch (107305, $15.95) and layered it on a piece of Ruby Red card stoc

Make it Vintage

Image
I have come to love the vintage look and worked it into my Father's Day card for my husband. The card itself is Kraft card stock, soon to be called Crumb Cake stamped with En Francais background stamp (109521, $17.95) in Soft Suede. I then "dirtied", or aged, the card by rubbing the Soft Suede ink pad directly on the card front. Wanting to add color but keep the vintage look, I chose the new Cherry Cobbler card stock. After stamping and tearing the card stock, I used the same technique make it look old. A fun card that came together so quickly and easily. Of course, you'll have to wait until July 1 to order the Cherry Cobbler card stock... The clock face and mechanisms are from the Sense of Time stamp set (113804, $22.95) and "Happy Father's Day" is from the Teeny Tiny Wishes (115370, $36.95).

Sweet Card

Another card made with the Sweet Scoops stamp set in the Summer Mini Catalog. Actually, this one is Aly Schilling's design made at the Spring Retreat. We scored the diagonal lines on the Kraft (soon to be Crumb Cake) card stock to coordinate with the ice cream cone. The card itself is Soft Suede, an in color that is staying on with a strip of So Saffron. Using the "kiss method", we added Melon Mambo sprinkles to the Regal Rose ice cream. The cherry has a spot of Dazzling Diamonds glitter on it. Notice the effect achieved with the punched hole in the side of the focal point and the white button occupying the space created.

Ice Cream Cone Fun

Image
The Sweet Scoops stamp set in the Summer Mini Catalog is such fun! I created this card for our Heartfelt Stampers swap, using products still available with the new catalog in July. Notice how the texture of the Soft Suede matches the ice cream cone. I simply ran the card stock through the Big Shot using the Perfect Details Texturz Plate. Stampin' Dimensionals made the ice cream pop. The cherry on the bottom is colored with Rose Red and Always Artichoke markers and then covered with an extra bubble from the Build-A-Brad set, although you could obtain a similar look with Crystal Effects. The card stock is Regal Rose, Soft Suede, Pretty in Pink and Very Vanilla. Inks are Soft Suede, Pretty in Pink and Chocolate Chip. The ribbon is Very Vanilla 5/8" Satin Ribbon from the Summer Mini Catalog.
