Christmas Shaker Card

I had more fun designing cards using the Jar of Cheer stamp set and still didn't use all the stamps in the set. That means there are plenty of other ideas to pursue!

Anyway, I've been wanting to try a shaker card for some time. Now that we have the flexible Foam Adhesive Strips, it is so much easier to make a card in any shape. So for this card, naturally, I made them fit the shape of a jar.

For this card, I cut the jar (Everyday Jars Framelits) from  a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of designer series paper from the Warmth & Cheer paper stack, attaching a piece of a Window Sheet behind the opening. Then I stamped the jar and ornaments on a piece of Whisper White card stock using Basic Black Archival ink. The white needs to be large enough to extend past the opening in the dsp. I then colored with Stampin' Write Markers, using Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler for the leaves and berries and Wild Wasabi for one ornament. The other two ornaments were colored using clear and gold Wink of Stella.

Once the image was ready, I took one foam adhesive strip and molded it around the jar, leaving a little room so it wouldn't show beneath the dsp. One strip does the job. [The jar lid will cover some of the strip.]

Once your strip is ready, add the glitter (I used gold), remove the paper strip, line up with the jar shape you previously cut out and press. The rest is pretty obvious. Oh, I did paint the jar band with more gold Wink of Stella.

You Mean Everything to Me

As much as I prefer scanning my cards over photographing them, I find there are some disadvantages. My little banner that is stamped with "you mean everything to me" loses the 3D look as it gets flattened by the cover of the scanner. Kyla and I were just playing around with ideas while she was visiting (did I mention, she's my new recruit?) and this was one of the cards I designed. Gathering the ribbon slightly, cutting out the heart image and folding and trimming the "banner" across the heart meant a little extra fussing, but I really like the result. When I was all finished with the card, I decided to add a little sparkle by spraying it with a mixture of Champagne Shimmer Paint and rubbing alcohol. If you look closely, you can see some of the sparkle that added to the card, including the ribbon. When you actually hold it in your hands, you can see the glittery shimmer much more easily. The Christmas Quilt bundle has so much versatility! I'm still using the Blooms & Bliss designer paper from last year's catalog as I design these cards. Today's post uses different designs from the pack from Saturday's post. Once again you can see the variety acquired using the same papers. Easter Daffodils

"You're Inspiring" stamp set is perfect for Easter or Mother's Day or sympathy or almost any occasion. With Easter approaching, that holiday was the obvious choice. This card uses two Sale-a-Bration items as well as the "You're Inspiring" stamp set from the Occasions Catalog: the Basket Weave embossing folder and the Springtime Foils Specialty dsp. And of course I used the Stampin' Blends! I'm wondering if I'll ever use my markers, now that I have experienced the 3D effects of our blends that also allow me to color with no streaks. Unless you have the Springtime Foils dsp, you may not realize that the leaves on this sheet are not green.  You can color this glossy paper with metallic designs using your Stampin' Blends, which is what I did here.
