Variation

Image
Whenever I have leftover pre-cuts from a class, I like challenging myself to design something different using the same pieces. So, with my Big Shot and the Botanical Builder Framelits Dies, my card is completely revamped! The stamped butterfly is from the Flowering Fields stamp set (Sale-a-Bration catalog) and the Blackberry Bliss butterflies are cut from the old scoring and cutting folders, the name of which I have forgotten. Actually, I was making two of this same card but managed a large Blackberry Bliss curve from the edge of the butterfly stamp. I covered that with a mini Hello Honey flower like the center of the Lost Lagoon flower, although my original intention had been to cover it with a butterfly. None quite fit, so... I used two of the group on the front of this card. I also chose to use some of my old brads on these flowers. Products Used : Gifts of Kindness stamp set, retired Lost Lagoon 8½" x 11" cardstock (24), 133679, $7.00 Whisper White 8½" x 11&q

Flowering Fields Stamp Set

The last couple weeks have been rather busy. My brother-in-law has been in hospice and my brother came to stay with me four days so he could visit Danny. Timing was good because Danny went home to be with his Lord and Savior yesterday morning at 6 AM. But I want to share some of the cards we made at my recent class. I wasn't sure about this card when I first made it, but once I stepped back from it I fell in love with it. By stamping the leafy stems in the background, stamping off as well so they wouldn't be too dark, and then adding the other flower stems over the top, I came up with a field of wildflowers above the Wildflower Fields dsp. Admittedly, the Lost Lagoon ribbon is from last year's catalog, but I have two spools of it and really prefer it to this year's offerings. I did color the multi-colored stamps with markers before stamping. This stamp set and its coordinating paper are available through the Sale-a-Bration catalog, which expires March 31st. You can

Birthday Chick

Image
I had fun trying to make this little chick look like she's holding a balloon under her wing. Not sure I quite made it, but... I played around with the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush, touching the neck feathers and tips of wings as well as some of the "balloon" and her eyes. I needed a little butterfly that was fluttering in the right direction, so I took it from the Hey, Girl stamp set. Perfect! You're So Sweet

Honeycomb Happiness is just a cute and fun stamp set that seems to coordinate so well with the Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper. And, of course, I just had to use the Honeycomb Embellishments along with the stamps. Strawberry ice cream cone anyone? Bloomin' Birthday

There's just something about this Designer Series Paper that I really like. Of course, the use of dsp does determine what color cardstock and inks I use on my card. Once again, I'm mixing elements—dsp and stamp sets that weren't intended to go together but do. I originally thought I would make this card into a Valentine, but decided it was too dark in colors. Yet, I believe the very darkness adds a rich quality to the card.  The cotton ribbon bow is Crushed Curry, a discontinued color. Botanical Builder

Still playing with the Botanical Gardens Bundle! For this card, I did not use the Botanical Blooms stamp set; everything was cut using the Botanical Builder Framelits Dies. The flowers are each anchored with brads rather than adhesive (yes, the black brad is discontinued). Although the color of the cardstock and the yellow used in the dsp is Hello Honey, I find the Crushed Curry close enough to use those Candy Dots inside the brad base. I never would have thought to use the Mint Macaron cardstock if it hadn't been used in the dsp, but I love the result!
