February stamp class

During my February card class we will be making these cards. All birthday cards because we always need birthday cards. All four of these cards include techniques, either special folds or using masks.

The classes are Thursday evening, February 23, and Saturday morning, February 25, whichever date fits schedules best. I've already had responses and have given Wednesday, February 15 as the deadline for response. We always have so much fun! Cards will vary somewhat, depending on the designer paper.

Another Valentine

January class included techniques used on Valentines. I've already shown one, using a mask; this is the other, a card with a different type of fold. The design actually came from Ronda Wade, although I altered it to use the products I had on hand.

What I realized as I worked on this card, is that you could score your cardstock in many different places as long as the center/inside conforms to the basic card size, or 4-1/4" x 5-1/2". Although most cards are made simply by cutting an 8-1/2" x 11" piece of cardstock in half, you need more than half a sheet for this variation. The base before scoring is 5-1/2" x 11".

The original card used black and white designer series paper from the Pop of Pink pack, but my paper is from the Neutrals paper stack. Ronda also used the "love" thinlit from the Sunshine Wishes set while I used the xoxo from a discontinued swing card set of framelits.

When you open the card once, it looks like this:
I used the valentine greeting from the discontinued Delightful Dozen stamp set for the inside, or center section of the card.

Masked Valentine

I recently took an on-line class from Pink Buckaroo Designs to learn how to use Stampin' Up! masks on my cards. I have had the Hearts & Stars Decorative Masks for some time but never got comfortable using them. What a great learning experience!

Anyway, I did not have some of the products that we used in the initial card, so I had to improvise for my class. A couple items are discontinued, but my faithful class attendees have no problem with that. The nice thing is that this enabled me to use up some of my leftover products!

On this card, we merely traced inside the hearts and then scribbled them in - no coloring. We had to use the fine tip end of the Real Red Stampin' Write Marker because the wider tip gives a completely different effect.

My hearts are a slightly different shape because I used the retired Hearts Collection rather than the current Sweet & Sassy Framelits. The other retired item I used is the self-adhesive "lace" down the side for an edge, although the original used our new Whisper White Mini Pompom Trim. My final substitute was the red embroidery floss (304 DMC) for the bow.

The card uses Real Red, Basic Black and Real Red card stock as well as White Stampin' Emboss Powder. And, of course, Stampin' Dimensionals.
