Monarch Butterfly

Image
I'm so excited about this card. I saw something like it on someone's blog and just love the way it turned out. I wanted to use the new Designer Series Paper Stack because I just love the new designs! And, of course, I was drawn immediately to the Watercolor Wings stamp set because of my love for butterflies. With the coordinating Framelits and Thinlits, there are all sorts of possibilities! Note: the black part of the butterfly is an overlay cut with one of the Butterflies Thinlits. Once again, my faithful customers are helping me use up old buttons and ribbons, but there are always substitutes available. More Papillon Potpourri

Once motivated to design cards with a butterfly theme for my July class, I began to come up with more ideas for the Papillon Potpourri stamp set. Using colors from the Subtles collection resulted in a peacefully happy card. Although it's difficult to see from the scan, the Calypso Coral butterfly slightly left of center was punched out and raised up with curled wings to add some dimension. Also, after scanning this, I decided to add tiny pearls to the So Saffron butterflies, that extra bling that we seem to love on our cards these days. Products Used: Papillon Potpourri stamp set (7), W 132058, $19.00; C 123759, $15.00 Birthday Blossoms stamp set (8), W 139167, $27.00; C 139471, $19.00 Whisper White 8½" x 11" cardstock (40), 100730, $8.50 Marina Mist 8½" x 11" cardstock (24), 119682, $7.00 Marina Mist Classic Stampin' Pad, 126962, $6.50 Blushing Bride Classic Stampin' Pad, 131172, $6.50 Calypso Coral Classic Stampin' Pad, 126983, $6.50 So

Shades of Purple

My customers have been so faithful over the years that I no longer worry about whether or not all the materials I use are still current. Consequently, they help me use up some of my retired products. This card made use of retired chevron ribbon and, when slightly altered, the Wisteria Wonder Baker's Twine. On the card shown here, I used a Candy Dot Base Brad to pucker the wider ribbon, but it was so difficult to catch all the thickness plus bend the prongs out of sight that I decided to alter the technique. For class we tied the wide ribbon with a piece of twine. Looked great and was so much easier! But this is the scan of the card I used when writing out the instructions for class. I love the Birthday Blossoms stamp set because of all the different fonts! I used a stamp from that set for the greeting on the front of this card. Such an easy card to make, especially because we have coordinating punches for this stamp set. Products Used: Papillon Potpourri stamp set (7), W 132

No Stamps!

One of the cards I designed for my butterfly-themed class this weekend took absolutely no stamps to make a fabulous and elegant card. Would make a great anniversary card, especially a golden anniversary. But it could be anything, including a simple note card. Because adhesive shows up beneath vellum, I ran my snail adhesive behind the gold satin ribbon and then added a few glue dots beneath the golden dots on the edges.  Another tip: when using delicate framelits or thinlits, be sure to place a piece of waxed paper or dryer sheet between your paper and the die to make removal much easier. Products Used: Pacific Point 8½" x 11" cardstock (24), 111350, $7.00 Gold 12" x 12" Fancy Foil Designer Vellum (9), 133363, $11.00 Gold 12" x 12" Foil Sheets (2), $4.00 Gold 5/8" Satin Ribbon (10 yards), 134547, $7.00 Bold Butterfly Framelits (2), 138135, $17.00 Butterflies Thinlits (3), 137360, $25.00
