Flowers & Butterflies

My daughter and my youngest granddaughter have birthdays three days apart. Since I had the Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper out for designing my upcoming class, I naturally came up with this design for my daughter, the recipient of the capelet I showed on a previous post. I'm sorry the ribbon of flowers has been discontinued because they are so perfect on a card like this.

I needed to design a birthday card for my granddaughter's second birthday when a box of Stampin' Up! supplies arrived. As I went through the items in the box, the top sheet in the pack of Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper caught my eye as being a fun paper, perfect for a birthday card. As I designed this card, I made one with two candles and this one with just one candle in the cupcake. I think someone on the design team at Stampin' Up! really likes Tangerine Tango since it pops up in a number of dsp designs. The button is from our last catalog; however you could use a Crushed Curry button from this year's Regals collection. The Crushed Curry Baker's Twine came from the Tag a Bag Accessory Kit, which comes with twine, Stampin' Dimensionals, 20 tags and labels, 10 mini clothespins and 5 Smoky Slate self-adhesive 12" strips. I also used Dazzling Details to add some sparkle to the frosting on the cupcake, although it's nearly impossible to see on this photograph.

Venetian Romance in a Valentine

Although the Venetian Romance designer series paper does not contain the traditional red, or even pink, of Valentine's Day, I thought this card was romantic enough to fit the occasion. I even used our Simply Pressed Clay and one of our molds as an embellishment, which I colored with the coordinating Stampin' Write Marker. Otherwise the colors are simply Tangerine Tango and Very Vanilla.

Why I've been MIA

I haven't been posting lately, but not because I haven't been busy creating! I'll be posting the birthday cards I made during the week as well as another Venetian Romance card for my class on Saturday, but today I'm showing off the capelet I made for my daughter's birthday. Actually, I would call it a mini poncho... Anyway, I gave myself one week to do what should have taken a month, spending every evening from 7 till midnight working on it. Yes, it led to a severe sleep deficit, but I'm thrilled with the results. And so is she. One of her comments: it's a lot less bulky than a scarf. And it adds the extra warmth she needs because she's always cold. The pattern shows it over the shoulders like a poncho, with one arm out or even as a mini skirt over jeans or leggings.

I'm showing two photos because the capelet is actually reversible. One side has cables while the other side has its own unique design.

More Print Poetry

As long as I had the Print Poetry paper stack out, I just continued designing. I decided to use the Edgelits instead of a punch on the Midnight Muse card stock behind the designer paper. The key is a charm we used to sell but that I've never used on a card before, but I love the effect and may find myself using them up in the future. I seem to accumulate a lot of embellishments I like but don't use until they are retired. I guess I just don't picture a use for them at the right time.

Print Poetry

Filling the need for cards, I pulled out the old Print Poetry Paper Stack, no longer available. I always loved this paper, especially certain designs, but have used very little of it. I must have been in a creative mood, because suddenly I had great ideas for this dsp.  I made two cards using basically the same design, one an anniversary card and one a birthday card. The latter was made first, before I realized that the larger flower also coordinated with the dsp. Because I used In Colors that are only good for 6 more months, I also made use of the coordinating Dahlias in the corner. You can barely see the Raspberry Ripple Dahlia because it's the same color as the card stock, but the recipient will definitely see it. Of course, I used Stampin' Dimensionals to raise all of the flowers. I have gotten to where almost every card contains dimensionals somewhere.

More Sympathy

This card is for the daughter of my deceased friend. I wanted to use the Elegant Eggplant and decided to create my own designer paper. I saw something similar to this card somewhere on the web, although I wasn't sure what stamp set was used.

The stamp set I used is a two-step stamp, but I only used the detailed images rather than the colored backgrounds. I also reversed the polka dotted ribbon so it would be plain because I didn't think the dots fit the mood of the card. Of course, this ribbon is also discontinued. Sigh.

I'm not sure if you can see it, but I dry embossed the card stock cut-out. The button is from an old stash—new buttons are a slightly different design. Once again, my camera made the Very Vanilla look like Whisper White.

A Little Break

Although I've had great fun designing cards with the Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper, an urgent need for sympathy cards and an anniversary card has be sidetracked. I could use more of that dsp, but I need my samples for my upcoming class featuring Venetian Romance. This is a very unique (I think) card which I sent to the widowed husband of a friend of mine from our years living in Ohio. Obviously, I needed to line the inside of the card since it is Basic Black. I have to admit, stamping with black ink doesn't produce the dark images I want, so I colored my stamps with my Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker. Perfect solution! Although the photo makes it look like the card is black and white, it is really black and vanilla.

Neutral Venetian Romance

I'm having great fun designing cards with the Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper. At first glance, I didn't think I would ever use the Soft Suede side of one of the sheets, but then decided it would be great for a masculine card. The result would be suitable for a man or a woman and has a certain elegance to it.

I photographed this card, although I would have much preferred to scan it. I think the scans are more detailed and are truer to the colors than the camera. However, an upgrade to our software threw out the connection to my scanner, so I'm stuck using my sorry excuse for a camera.
